Maintenance Technician

Job description

The primary focus of the Maintenance Technician will be to repair and maintain plant equipment, building and support equipment as effectively and economically as possible while being consistent with plant policies, practices, and procedures. This position is Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm. Salary listed is dependent on experience and certifications.

Job Responsibilities

  • Excellent mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, plumbing, and general carpentry aptitude.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Perform repair / preventative maintenance and restoration on equipment, building and support equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining proper records for all machines.
  • Responsible for adhering to OSHA, lockout / tagout and company rules and policies.
  • Responsible for assisting in new equipment installation and existing equipment modifications.
  • Perform daily inspections and maintenance of the plant equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations to maximize production and minimize interruptions.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining and operating production equipment to optimize availability, quality, and speed.
  • Maintain and/or improve equipment performance to design specifications.
  • Troubleshoot system issues and take corrective actions independently, while minimizing production downtime.
  • Highlight system issues for permanent corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Requisition repair materials, machine components and parts and help maintain and organize spare parts inventory, while reducing down-time of equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical equipment, and PLC-controlled machines.
  • Schedule repairs and PMs with Operations to keep overtime and downtime to a minimum.
  • Welding via multiple welding methods to create, maintain and or repair equipment.
  • Soldering and repair of circuit boards, wires, etc.
  • Install / repair up to 480V circuits and motors.
  • Run EMT and rigid conduit (3/4″ thru 4″).
  • Interpret electrical diagrams.
  • Make electrical connections and troubleshoot electrical motors and drives.
  • Responsible for the completion of all maintenance service requests as assigned.
  • Assist in monitoring work being performed by outside contractors.
  • Complete grounds work as directed by Property Manager which may include picking up trash, sweeping curb and dumpster areas and maintaining landscaping beds and other areas.
  • Monitor and maintain all building systems as assigned.
  • HVAC Certification is a plus.
  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualities Desired in Successful Candidate

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Should have good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Should be computer literate.
  • A valid driver’s license required, with ability to pass CDL medical.
  • Must be able to travel. Limited to less than 5% of the yearly hours.
  • Must be able to pass drug screening and criminal background check.
  • This job requires exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
  • Attendance: defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual, and predictable attendance. Candidate must maintain attendance at a level above minimum standards of employee handbook, due to the critical nature of this position while being able to maintain the ability to work regular hours and shifts, overtime before and after shifts and on weekends, based on times of plant related emergencies.

  • Candidate must have stable and consistent work history with excellent references.
  • Take personal ownership and ensure equipment produces a quality product.
  • Willingness to train personnel on use of equipment and new tasks.
  • Industrial experience or manufacturing experience.
